The 2016 navigation season has officially begun in the Port of Thunder Bay with the arrival of two vessels Saturday, March 26.  MV Tecumseh arrived at 17:10 Saturday evening to take the Top Hat title, an honour bestowed upon the first vessel to transit Lake Superior and arrive in the Port of Thunder Bay to open the shipping season.  MV Algoma Equinox also arrived in port later Saturday evening.

MV Tecumseh, owned by Lower Lakes Towing, is loading 20,000 metric tonnes of wheat and canola at Richardson’s Current River elevator for shipment to Sorel, Quebec.

This is the second consecutive year that MV Tecumseh is the recipient of the Top Hat in the Port of Thunder Bay.  Captain Kevin Collard and Chief Engineer George Ulrich were recognized in the annual Top Hat Ceremony by Thunder Bay Port Authority, the City of Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce.  The ceremony took place 10:00a.m. Monday, March 28 at Richardson’s Current River elevator.
